ATTENTION PARENTS OF CHILDREN AT WASHINGTON!
I have lots of Epi-Pens, inhalers, nebulizer solution and other various medications that were either left at school from Mtn. Trail or here for your child in the event of an emergency. There was a letter sent home if your child has medication in the clinic.

Per state regulations, I cannot keep medication in the clinic over the summer break. PLEASE come pick up your child's medication so that I do not have to throw it away. The emergency medications are not inexpensive and I would hate to waste your child's medication.

Again, PLEASE pick up the medications in the clinic before the end of the school year on Wednesday. I cannot allow a child to transport their medications on the bus or give it to them if they are a car rider. It has to be picked up in the clinic by an adult.

Thank you!
Mrs. Falin, BSN, RN

Flu, Strep, and Nausea! OH MY!
As many of us are already well aware, the Influenza season is now upon us. The clinic has seen a large uptick in business lately.

Please remember the following guidelines that can be found in the Student Handbook on when your child needs to stay at home from school:

1. Fever (temperatures of 100.6 or greater): NO fever for 24 hours without any Tylenol, Motrin or any other fever reducing agents. This would include the cold preparations with Tylenol or Motrin in them.

2. Vomiting: No episodes of vomiting for 24 hours

3. Diarrhea:  3 or more loose or watery stools in 24 hours indicates a child is still contagious with illness.

There are more of course, but those are the big 3 right now!

Please also take into consideration that your child may be fever free but may still be quite weak or not feeling up to par in the days after flu, strep, walking pneumonia and other illnesses. If they are exhibiting excessive tiredness or still symptomatic after starting treatment, talk with your healthcare provider about whether they should attend school.

If you have concerns about flu or any other illness, please see the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/flu

Have a healthy weekend!
Mrs. Falin, BSN, RN
Make sure you have your Action Plans for 2010-2011!!
If you are a parent of a child that has a need for medications at school (inhalers, Epi-Pens, Insulin, Diastat and a TON of others), PLEASE ask your physician for those orders PRIOR to starting school.

I will be mailing to you the Action plans and Plans of Care for the student I know already that have these needs. Look for those in mid-July and avoid the MD rush!

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have!

Thanks so much! Have a GREAT Summer!!

Allison Falin, BSN, RN
H1N1 Vaccine Clinic, second vaccines ONLY
If you have a child that received their H1N1 Vaccine here at Washington Elementary, please call the nurse at 378-2465 to confirm the need for a second vaccine.

If you have already completed the series for your child under the age of 10, please let Mrs. Falin know this also.

We want to do everything possible to avoid administering vaccines to children that do not need it.

Thank you,
Allison Falin, RN, BSN, MA
WASH YOUR HANDS
Please remember to instruct the kids to wash with soap and warm water. They need to scrub long enough to have sung ABC's or Happy Birthday in their head twice.

Thanks for all you do in helping to keep our kids healthy.
